growing up my eyebrows were always the thickest in my class, especially since i grew up in a predominantly white/asian elementary school until 2nd grade. after i moved i still had the biggest eyebrows to the point where they became an insecurity.
now that im older it doesnt effect me as much, especially since i trim them now but seeing famous people been praised and they have the features i have really have been a positive in my look on how i perceive myself with them. not only that but also the fact that most of what ive seen is about mexican people, makes me feel more appreciated and better represented <3
for one, i have always loved checo since i got into f1 because outside of having big brows, i was also so insecure of my ethnicity. being mexican (esp in this climate) is honestly so nerve-wrecking... but seeing someone who is just like me be so successful gives me hopei love mexicans!!! i love how we dream and are able to show that we are not limited by climate, location, or time. we always get it #done.
seeing people just like me, be loved in a way i wasnt able to recieve gives me hope that no matter what, someone out there will see me the way others see these people.
another example is hormiga !!! not only was he on the national team for mexico during the world cup but he is also on the team from which my family is from! las chivas have been my fathers pride and joy since i could remember. the fact that he is basically a representation of me wrapped in a package makes me hold him dear in my heart.
ive only seen love for his unibrow and because i grew up with not just big brows but also a unibrow, it helps my confidence knowing that someone just like me is loved.
i believe thats what representation is about, showing people that they are loved and that others like them do exist, we arent as lonely as we think we are. i mean theres 8 billion of us on here, surely one of them is similar to us in some way.
